Away From The Numbers – The Jam

You can hear The Jam in our music from the first single, Think, especially the b-side, Work for Nothing. Weller had moved on by the time we had started but I even liked The Style Council and went to see them at The Albert Hall. But The Jam were it! Punk-Mod-Soul-Funk. Right up my street. When we started getting a bit more confident, after a few live performances, we lengthened songs to allow space for breaks. Tom started singing Away From The Numbers at the end of Think and I would interject with a bit of The Fall’s Rowche Rumble. I guess we wore our influences on our sleeves…
